Decorating our Mid-Century Modern living space with Walmart

Hi friends!! A couple of weeks ago, I shared the first phase of creating our ‘lounge’ in the new home where we really focused on the front part of the room (you can read that here). Today we are sharing phase two, which is a continuation of that. This time we are focusing on the huge back wall in our open space lounge/living room area.

This room has amazing natural light and the walls are a beautiful grey so we really felt we had a lot of freedom to play with color and be bold, however: nailing down a concept was overwhelming to me, because it is so open and beautiful and I didn’t want to take anything away from it. And, we all know I love a bold moment, so my goal here was to incorporate some bold statement pieces without killing the vibe.

If you’ve been following along for the past few months then you already know — I am living for the green and pink color combo! Since we already had decided on the gorgeous Better Homes and Gardens Marlowe Lounge chairs in pink for the phase one of the room, I immediately thought a green statement piece was needed.

Walmart Home did not let me down and right away I found this ridiculously fun green velvet sofa bed! Admittedly, at first, I was a bit skeptical about quality and durability - but aesthetically it was exactly what I was looking for, with that price point I decided to give it a shot! Just like the pink chairs, this sofa took about 20 minutes to assemble and Producer Jess was able to do it 100% by herself with no trouble at all! And again, like the chairs, this thing is SOFT.  Like, I have daydreams of becoming a true lady of leisure while lounging on this sofa. Haha!!

From my last post you may remember that I had a few midcentury pieces of furniture from my Grandmother’s house, including these end tables and coffee table! I had a feeling these end tables would bookend the sofa perfectly and as luck would have it they were the PERFECT fit against the back wall.

Once those were in place, all we really had to do was figure out pillows, wall art, lamps, and a rug! I knew that I would need not just any rug in this space… it had to be the one with the perfect colors, the perfect size, and perfect vibe to mingle with the other two rugs on both neighboring sides of this area. I really needed something that worked with those in order to make everything flow.  What I didn’t expect at all was to find one so perfect that it pretty much felt too good to be true. Like, for real.

This Nourison Passion Vintage Bordered Ivory/Fuchsia Area Rug literally couldn’t be more perfect.  I was blown away with the quality and vibrancy when it arrived after only 2 days from Walmart.com!  And I will forever be amazed at how much difference a rug makes when it comes to really tying a room together and making it feel warm.

The final touches were pillows, wall decor and lighting.  For pillows I went a little overboard because, well…I just really love a good throw pillow. 😝Totally normal right? It also didn’t help that I had SO MANY good ones to choose from.  We went with these adorable Mainstays Tufted Striped in Ivory and this statement pillow - Better Homes & Gardens Ivory with Yellow stripes Lumbar Pillow.

You also know it just wouldn’t feel like me at all if I didn’t throw a tropical number in there.  This time we went with these COMPLETELY PERFECT tropical pink bird series and used a print from the other tropical series we had left over from phase one.  (There is still a couple of exciting prints from these series coming your way in phase three too!) The Hot pink pillows are just like the ones from phase one but a square 18x18 and a fun pom pom!!

Now, I’m sure you’re wondering why I went with a pop of yellow on this area where mostly pinks and greens were living.  Well, it’s because while we were looking for the right lamps… I saw these and had to have them in my life - the Safavieh yellow lamps!

I saw them by chance while browsing the lamp selection on Walmart.com and I trusted my gut all the way. They are the perfect pop of color for this bright and cheerful corner of the lounge!  Not only that, they tie in that statement pillow that’s in the middle of the couch perfectly. (I actually might buy the 2pack again for another room I am decorating, in the orange or teal colors).

Finally, for the finale of this process I decided that this English Rose Print that I’d originally picked up for the front part of the lounge was actually meant to be right smack in the center of this big wall over the green sofa and bracketed by these adorable arched gold wall shelves. I loved that the arches played into the painting! I really love putting indoor plants on walls and I had been wanting to do that for a while - I love how it turned out, what do you guys think?! Some smaller details… On the sofa is this beautiful throw blanket, and I love this gold tabletop sculpture on Grandmother’s coffee table.

I’ll be sharing the final phase three of the lounge in the next few weeks so stay tuned!!! We still have another wall and entrance way to work on! 😝
