BREAKTHROUGH // I Love Cereal and That's OK

I’m sorry, Cereal. For the past 15 years or so, I haven’t let myself enjoy you without feeling guilt and shame. I was so submerged in diet culture that I believed if I ate you for any meal, I was being “bad” and deserved to be punished after (in the form of over exercising or under-eating). I’ve been working real hard these past few months to get to a peaceful place with food, and part of that process has been to re-introduce you into my life. Truth is, you’re all I really want first thing in the morning and you make me feel good. And sometimes, I might even eat you for dinner! (*gasp*)!! But what I’ve also learned through this is that by allowing you to be an option for me to pick from, I don’t always choose you - sometimes I go for fresh fruit, eggs, a protein shake, or a bagel. And when I do choose you, I feel zero need to eat the entire box since I know you’ll always be there. This is exactly how it should be. This is the power of intuitive eating.
