Having just moved into our home we are still unpacking, organizing and re-imagining all of the new spaces. All the while we are juggling work schedules, kid’s activities, and life. With Spring on it’s way, I really wanted to prioritize getting the screened in porch done. I didn’t want to miss a minute of enjoying the gorgeous weather without having to also endure the bugs!

I am going to dive into ALL the design details for this space, but first I have to talk about how easy this was to accomplish using my Walmart+ membership. This membership literally saved me last fall -- and no surprise, once again was the real MVP this time around!!!

Walmart+ is a new kind of membership with some incredible benefits, but the one I have been using the most the last couple of months is the free delivery from your store. For a monthly fee of $12.95 or an annual fee of $98, you get free deliveries ($35 minimum, restrictions apply). I love that I was able to have some of the things that I needed delivered right to my door within just a couple of days!!

You can also get member prices on fuel and gas, as well as mobile scan & go to help you get in and out of the store quickly. Benefits might change depending on your area, so check out Walmart+ to see what benefits you qualify for in your zip code, as well as to sign up for a 15 day free trial so you can see for yourself just how great it is!

THE DESIGN PROCESS // How we styled our screened in back porch

The MAIN GOAL here for me when designing any space is to make it INVITING. I wanted this space, which feels very cold and boring to be warm and inviting! Looking at the before photos, you’ll see we started with a pretty neutral and sterile canvas.  What we wanted to do was warm it up and make it a space that invited relaxation and easy vibes. Let me know if we accomplished it?!!!

THE BEFORE…

1 - PICK A STATEMENT PIECE

The first thing we needed was a statement piece! Something that was bold and would tie all the other elements together. A rug is the perfect way to add color and texture to any space and because the floors are concrete I knew having one would also make the space more cozy. So, we started there! Browsing the rug selection on Walmart.com, I saw this beautiful tropical rug and it was a no brainer. The deep jewel tones and multi-dimensional greens were exactly what I was looking for. I choose the 8x10 and immediately added it to my cart.

2 – DECIDE ON SEATING

We knew we wanted a table and chair set to enjoy meals together and to center the space. We went with a black metal set that had a mid century modern feel. The set we purchased is currently sold out so I’ve linked a similar set HERE.

3 - FIND A COZY CONVERSATION PIECE

What would make people want to sit out here? A fire pit table!! I really wanted to add a nice fire pit table for the patio and I knew that I could find one at Walmart that would be affordably priced and exactly what I needed. This one is ALSO A TABLE! Win-Win.

4 - FINAL DETAILS, DECOR, AND STORAGE

After this was decided we felt that we needed to add some wood elements to warm up the space since our larger pieces were neutrals and we knew the wood would really pop with the jewel tones of the rug. We found the set of chairs fast and knew they would be perfect because they had a similar shape and pattern theme as the table and chair set.

We also needed a good storage piece that is weather resistant and thought that getting that in a similar wood stain would be perfect and really balance the room. That was the easiest find and once that was in the cart all that was left was the little touches of decor to really warm up the space and fill it in with pops of color.

We chose the black and white striped pillows because of the neutral colors and because the pattern goes great with the tropical pattern of the rug. While looking for those we stumbled on the black tropical pillows that had the tiny little pop of coral and pink and knew that the room would really come together with that splash. We also added a simple kiwi colored solid pillow for a pop of color (the actual one we ordered is no longer available so we linked a similar one). For some added coziness and texture, we found this faux cashmere herringbone outdoor throw

Last, we wanted to find a good durable set of outdoor dinnerware, we went with a soft green melamine layered with black. Then we stumbled on our ultimate favorite find of the day which was the Thyme and Table black and white patterned dinnerware set. Ashley loves these so much that they are and will be used as her everyday dishes. The quality is amazing and the price point is an actual steal.
